Hi everyone!
Very excited to have a common space for 4D-related discussions!
What are the main free online libraries you use to source 3D models (fairly detailed) to be used in 4D construction sequences? We mainly use:
3D Warehouse: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/?hl=en
GrabCAD: https://grabcad.com/library
BIMstore (latest temporary works collection is awesome!): https://www.bimstore.co/collections/temporary-works
Of course https://www.bimobject.com/en/product and https://www.nationalbimlibrary.com/en-gb/find-bim-objects/ also exist but mainly design/manufacturing focused and not 4D-friendly!
Do you use any paid online libraries like https://www.cgtrader.com/?
Anything I am missing? Do you regularly create your own 3D models from scratch and rely on in-house libraries? I feel that a structured publicly available 4D-related library is missing. Is this a competitive advantage that organisations do not want to share?
Happy to read your thoughts! đ

Hi Lampros, that's a comprehensive list!
I agree that this resource is missing and would be valuable. Perhaps we'll see more manufacturing, plant and machinery providers include lower detail models soon. That's what we want isn't it? Models that are accurate, and to scale, but don't include all the detail that causes model performance issues.
I've found recently that looking at the actual manufacturers website, especially for hoist and mast climbing systems can actually be quite fruitful.
Other than that we tend to adapt models borrowed from the resources you listed against 2D spec sheets to get actual size requirements.
If the project really warrants it and its critical to a sequence or can importantly be reused across other projects in the business, we've been known to purchase from paid libraries also.
To throw one in the mix www.turbosquid.com is a great site, very similar to cgtrader!

Thanks for the replies! The excitement of finding in the free libraries the exact equipment type you are looking for is second to none đ.
Otherwise yes, following a similar approach adapting what you have to the provided specs! At the end it should be a space proofing exercise and no need to over-complicate things.
Hi Lampros,
There is a nice library of equipment provided by Synchro:
https://www.synchroltd.com/equipment-library/
It's all in .dwf format.
